LITERARY ARTS – Programmed by Denise Low

Indigenous Voices Series: Elise Paschen

June 12, 2026

The distinguished former director of the Poetry Society of America will share readings and stories about her famous mother Maria Tallchief, a prima ballerina, travels in Europe, and Osage culture. The film Killers of the Flower Moon takes its title from Paschen’s poem “Wi’-gi-e,” which references late springtime frosts in the Osage lunar cycle. Her new book Blood Wolf Moon is named for her birth month and suggests its Osage themes. She was raised in Chicago and returns to Oklahoma’s Osage reservation for annual dances.

This talented poet walks in two worlds as she writes about the 1920’s Reign of Terror in Oklahoma and contemporary Osage life in the 21st century. Her work combines emotional intensity and unrelenting questing for the translation of identity. She will read, discuss the book with literary programmer Denise Low, and respond to audience questions. Buffalo-themed appetizers will be available.
