Sara Calvosa Olson

Sara Calvosa Olson is a Karuk food writer and editor based in the Bay Area. Her work focuses on the intersection of storytelling, Indigenous food systems, food security, sovereignty, reconnection, and recipe development. She is the author of the cookbook Chími Nu'am: Native California Foodways for the Contemporary Kitchen, which features recipes based on traditional Indigenous plants and animals. Her writing has appeared in publications like News from Native California and Edible Shasta-Butte. She has also worked with the California Indian Museum and Cultural Center, leading cooking workshops and virtual demonstrations. Calvosa Olson is passionate about tribal food sovereignty projects and advocates for thoughtful, sustainable food gathering practices.
