Andrew Mell

Dr. Andrew Mell is a Bassist, Composer, and Educator based in Sacramento, California. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Jazz and Music Industry Studies at University of the Pacific.

Dr. Mell is a regular performer in the Sacramento greater area. He performs regularly at venues such as The Sofia Theater in Sacramento and the Take 5 Jazz Club in Stockton with esteemed artists such as Joe Gilman, Jacam Manricks, Joe Mazzaferro, and Patrick Langham. Previously, Dr. Mell lived in Nebraska where he performed regularly at jazz venues such as The Jewell and The Zoo Bar. He played with musicians including Grammy-Nominated Mitch Towne, Dr. Greg Simon, Dr. Andrew Janak, Dr. Pete Madsen, Dr. Ben Nichols, Peter Schlamb, and Matt Villinger. While earning his undergraduate and graduate degree, Andrew has also had the chance to share the stage with many of his musical inspirations, including Kendrick Scott, Gilad Hekselman, John Raymond, and Terrell Stafford.

Andrew is also an active educator. At University of the Pacific, Dr. Mell teaches the jazz bass studio, leads a small jazz combo, and teaches classes on stage production.
