Erik Von Buchau
Erik Von Buchau, a San Francisco Bay Area native, started playing jazz gigs on drum set at the age of 15. His first significant employer was Norman “Bishop” Williams. At the age of 13 Erik had the good fortune to be invited to play percussion for two sets of music with legendary Brazilian percussionist Airto Moriera at San Francisco’s Keystone Corner. Erik went on to play drum set on numerous gigs with trumpeter Eddie Henderson and was part of Mark Levine’s Quintet recording with him on the record “Concepts” on Concord Records in 1985. Erik has also been on gigs with George Cables, Larry Grenadier and Joe Farrell. He is now currently a music teacher in the West Contra Costa School District teaching elementary band students and performing regularly throughout the Bay Area.
