Jackie Ryan Trio

“Extraordinary - a world-class talent! From her song selection to her voice to her accompaniment, singer Jackie Ryan has it all. Any jazz singer who can claim praise from the likes of Clark Terry, Jon Hendricks and Terry Gibbs deserves careful consideration. And Jackie Ryan has those accolades and more.”  - Don Heckman, jazz critic for the Los Angeles Times

Vocalist Jackie Ryan brings her trio to THE 222 for one show only on April 16. Great acoustics and an intimate setting will highlight the beauty of this uncommon configuration of vocal, trumpet and piano. Jackie is excited to be performing this month for the first time in two years due to the pandemic and will bring her own style of fresh energy and a magnetic presence to the stage. Band members include Erik Jekabson on trumpet and John R. Burr on piano. The show will include classics from the Gershwins, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Benny Goodman, Brazilian standards of Antonio Carlos Jobim, and the surprise of seldom heard gems.

Blessed with a three and a half octave range, Ryan's classic, yet exotic style and sound are influenced by her Mexican, Irish, French, and Spanish roots. Throwing her background into her music, she sings in Spanish, English, and Portuguese with echoes of Sarah Vaughn, Duke Ellington, and Billie Holiday. Her appeal "bridges the gap between both geography and generations," as BILLBOARD puts it.
