George Cables Trio
August 3, 2025
Join in celebrating this milestone and the remarkable contributions of a true jazz giant. Jazz legend George Cables recently celebrated his 80th birthday (November 13, 2024) with a stunning new recording, I Hear Echoes, showcasing the timeless artistry that has defined his illustrious career.
George Cables should be declared a National Treasure. As a pianist he is surely second to none on today’s jazz scene.
— Organissimo Forums
George Cables brought his trio for the very first season of THE 222 and now returns for two shows with the outstanding Essiet Essiet on bass and Jerome Jennings on drums. These two shows will feature music from his latest recording, I Hear Echoes, along with others of his well-known compositions. His reputation is as varied as it is engaging, including creative interpretations of the standards and his own compositions.
The concert features jazz standards by legends like Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, and Horace Silver, as well as a tribute to the next generation of jazz talent with a piece by Arcoiris Sandoval, an exciting female pianist making waves in the jazz scene today. Throughout, Cables bridges the past and future of jazz, crafting an album that is a must-listen for any jazz aficionado. “.
The recordings George Cables made with jazz giants Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson, Art Pepper, Bobby Hutcherson, Woody Shaw, and Freddie Hubbard are all on every jazz critic’s must-have list. They’re classics, pure and simple. But George is much more than a contributor to the history of jazz; he is jazz history. His playing changed the way pianists approach hard bop and post-bop, and he continues to influence the young generation now. But it’s you whose life is going to be changed by taking in George’s all-inclusive mastery of jazz piano: You won’t believe what you’re hearing. The fire, creativity, facility, power, technique, melodicism — there is nothing more exciting than a George Cables concert.
