John Heard - Tribute - A Celebration with His Music and Art

THE 222 will host a very special evening honoring the late John Heard, world-renowned bassist and visual artist who passed away last December. Join us for a heartfelt tribute, a unique presentation, and a meeting of the arts!

Featured will be music by The John Heard Tribute Trio, with pianist Danny Grissett (who’ll be flying in from his home in Austria,) drummer Lorca Hart, and Essiet Essiet on bass. They’ll be joined by special guest, saxophonist Ralph Moore. The band will honor Heard, playing music from their time performing together.

A rare exhibition of John’s paintings and sculptures will be on display for two days, June 25 and 26. Attendees can join in the celebration by sharing stories and thoughts of John, to be captured on video as a remembrance for John’s grandchildren. Three generations of the Heard family will be present, coming from Los Angeles and beyond.

Jessica Felix, THE 222’s jazz programmer, is producing this special event. Felix was a very close friend of John and his family, and this evening he will be honored with a unique, multimedia presentation. Heard’s Trio with Grissett and Hart played in the Hotel Healdsburg lobby from 2003 to 2008 during the Healdsburg Jazz Festival, while Felix was artistic director of the Festival.
